One example that supports this main idea is how the author states that by the middle of the 3rd BC the roman empire had captured most of peninsula. Another fact that supports this main idea is when the author tells about how Egypt was finally captured by the roman empire and was added to the list of territories rome already held. These ideas are connected to how the Greek empire tried to do the same thing in their conquest of power.
